Contemplating a Garden Spruce Up
Our garden is a bit of a mess - we haven't really touched it since buying the house so there's a lot of overgrown patches with the usual nasties such as brambles and ivy, there's a dodgy wall that's falling down and the garden is split into levels and has things such as holly bushes and roses - lots of prickles and small people don't really mix! The garden is far from child safe and to be honest I have absolutely no idea where to start! Gardening is definitely a steep learning curve for me and I don't have a "green thumb" so I have a lot of learning to do.
I'd like to create a very child centred space, this garden is there for my children to enjoy as I want to encourage outdoor play as much as possible as well as having space for little friends to come round. I'm keen to have a good area for my children's climbing frame and swing set but also add some elements of fun such as a elf garden and a miniature road for toy trucks.
I'd also like to have some grow your own edibles around the garden - I think it's great for children to get involved in but it's also very rewarding - I'd be happy to start with a herb garden in raised boxes hooked onto slats or suspended in pots and I'm keen to attempt potatoes.
I'd like to create an area to entertain friends and family and eat outdoors - I'm keen to explore all year round outdoor seating and lighting - I'd like to know more about solar lighting as I feel the garden is a great area to start looking at renewable energy sources.
I was impressed by this quick and simple pop up garden created by B&Q at a press event I attended - I think there are many elements I can take from here for my garden.
Do you have any tips for creating a family friendly garden?
